BACTERIAL PATTERN AND SENSITIVITY TEST OF URINARY TRACT INFECTION IN DR. MOEWARDI HOSPITAL – SURAKARTA

Background. The incidence urinary tract infection (UTI) still frequently happens in Indonesia. The accurate treatment in accordance to the urine cultures were evaluated for bacterial pattern and antibiotic sensitivity. This way is taken while waiting for the result of urine cultures and at the same time the patient is needed to given the rational antibiotic based on the bacterial pattern in each hospital. .

Objective. This study is aimed to know which antibiotic choice for empirical or definitive treatment UTI and bacterial pattern.

Material and Methods. This study is done with the retrospective cross-sectional in dr. Moewardi hospital Surakarta, central of Java, Indonesia. Patients with clinical evidence of UTI, previously free from antibiotic treatment for three days is later then continued to sensitivity test and bacterial culture.

Results. From 73 spesimen which culture, only 32 ( 43,8 %) were grown. Gram (-) bacterial was 68, 75 %, what is many is Enterobacter sp ( 36,4 %). While Gram (+) bacterial was 31,25 %, what is many is Staphylococcus sp ( 80 %). The Gram negative sensitivity were 4th cephalosporin still 72,3 % and meronem 63,6 %. While for the Gram positive sensitivity was only 4th cephalosporin which still is sensitive ( 20%).

Conclusion. The highest urine bacterial culture pattern in dr. Moewardi Hospital is Gram negatif (Enterobacter sp.). 4th Cephalosporin can be use for empirically or definitive treatment UTI in dr. Moewardi hospital Surakarta.
